Listen up, people: The “Megaschool initiatiave” has ALREADY BEEN **VOTED DOWN** once before. Why? BECAUSE *FIXING THE SCHOOLS WE HAVE* is a HELL OF A LOT *LESS EXPENSIVE* than building a school which:
1) Statistical evidence of Bloomfield Township’s population shows *SHALL NOT BE FILLED with students* and
2) ELIMINATES PHYSICS as a part of the curriculum–as in, “its not even offered.” ARE YOU CRAZY?!
Do you REALLY THINK that eliminating MATH and SCIENCE is a smart move for the youth of this country?
THINK AGAIN. This wold we live in is getting MORE scientific, mathematic, and technological–NOT ARTISTIC. Artists contribute VERY LITTLE MONEY in tax revenue; on the other hand, SCIENTISTS contribute A LOT MORE tax revenue.
Therefore, **I DON’T CARE** whether “the buildings are looking old” and all that NONSENSE. If you don’t teach the AFFLUENT kids of Bloomfield Hills Math and Science, I **HIGHLY DOUBT** the slack will be “taken-up” by inferior school districts (like Detroit Public Schools) to “fill the gaps.”
I’ve never heard the part about eliminating physics. Where did you get that from?
I didn’t make the comment but maybe they are referring to the fact that the IB curriculum does not include Physics
I voted no on the 2010 proposal for one new school, and I will vote no again if this comes up. Bigger is not usually better.
On the BHSD forum Kate Petterson contradicts herself when discussing why she picked the Bloomfield Hills school district when her family was transfered here. She claims to have been awed by the new and dazzling Troy high school. But where did she end up buying her house and sending her kids to school? Where they had great teachers, as she claims. So much for a new impressive building being a sales incentive (to compensate for your big tax bill).+1

Bloomfield appears to be asking for a Blank Check.
We went through the idea of merging schools years ago.
How can it be a good idea? It is not in the best interest of the children. When Bloomfield closed Hickory Grove and moved those children between two elementary schools, the school district did a great job on covering up what was going on internally.
Bullying was a big factor. Kids are cruel and there was an obvious divide between the children. I can only imagine what would take place amongst teenagers.
While Bloomfield tried to make it seamless and great, they failed.
What happened to Hickory Grove closing? I drive by there daily and see the Model High School sign and I cringe.
When will the community see that the current Board is just not cutting it. Get rid of all of them and lets start fresh.
Vote NO and NO~
Thomas,
You are right to see a strong disagreement between Bloomfield NOW and Bloomfield 20/20 not just in matters of opinion, but in matters of fact. Thank you for stripping off the glossy marketing slogans and intense emotion and following up with both groups, as well as with the District’s Voter Information page (http://www.bloomfield.org/component/content/article/650), to understand the facts before you vote.
Hi Thomas,
Please see my Opinion piece in the Eccentric this weekend. Also, in the Oct 5 Oakland Press there will be side by side Pro/Con opinions. Hopefully these will be posted on this forum and help you sort through the issue.
Sadly, the NOW group refused to participate in a League of Women Voters forum debate with Bloomfield 20/20 – 2010. That would have been another opportunity for you to compare.
Otherwise, please ask specific questions and I would be pleased to answer them factually based on district documents that generally are hidden from public view.
Where ever you land, I am glad that you are asking the questions. I believe the more people ask questions, the more they will believe that the district plan is premature, unreasonable and fiscally irresponsible.
It is not in the best interest of the students nor the community.
Thank you.
Chris
I rec’d your mailing, “Vote NO new Taxes” on tuesday and today rec’d a mailing from another from Bloomfield NOW that contradicts your message.
Who am I supposed to believe?
and why?
